Coaches and Directors

Sam began his coaching career with the Barrie Trojans in 2022, where he quickly discovered a deep passion for the profession. His commitment to athlete development and his natural leadership ability led to a rapid rise within the club, culminating in his appointment as Head Age Group Coach the following season.
After two successful years in that role, Sam expanded his experience by taking on the position of Head Coach with the Orangeville Otters. His time in Orangeville sharpened his technical expertise, broadened his programbuilding skills, and strengthened his ability to guide swimmers across a wide range of developmental and highperformance pathways.
Now back with the Trojans, Sam is energized by the future and excited to contribute to the continued growth of the club.
Throughout his career, Sam has had the privilege of coaching swimmers at the highest levels of Canadian swimming, including Trials qualifiers, Trials finalists, Ontario record breakers, Canadian record breakers, and a Para world record breaker. He is a certified NCCP 201 coach, will be beginning 301 training in September, and is committed to continuous learning and professional development. Sam is also a Chartered Professional Coach (ChPC) with the Coaches Association of Canada, reflecting his dedication to excellence and ethical leadership in sport.
Groups Coaching: Senior Development & Junior

Maks returns for the 2026–2027 season to coach the Senior Development and Junior groups. He is enrolled in Swimming 201 and is part of the Swim Ontario Grassroots Working Group, bringing both his experience as a competitive swimmer and a coach together with his passion for working with youth.

Groups Coaching: Senior & Novice
Hadjer is a former Algerian national champion and a dedicated swim coach with a rich competitive background. She represented her country at the Mediterranean Games and competed at the national level in both Algeria and France. Her international experience as a high-performance athlete provides her with a deep understanding of stroke mechanics, race preparation, and long-term athlete development. Since transitioning to coaching, Hadjer has pursued extensive professional development, completing courses ranging from community coaching specialized topics such as Introduction to Para-Swimming, Physical Development of Female Swimmers. On deck, Hadjer is known for her precise technique guidance, and growth-focused approach, helping swimmers of all ages build confidence and reach their potential.

Groups Coaching: Junior Development & Provincial
BIO
Meaghan began swimming with the Newmarket Stingrays Swim Club at the age of four and continued with the program throughout high school. During her years as an athlete, she became a Provincial finalist, an Easterns qualifier, and an Age Group National qualifier, demonstrating consistency, resilience, and a strong competitive drive.
For her varsity career, Meaghan competed for the Guelph Gryphons Varsity Swim Team, where she served as team captain for two years. She is a twotime OUA relay medalist and a USport Championship qualifier, bringing highperformance experience and leadership to every team she works with.
Meaghan’s coaching journey began with the Newmarket Stingrays, where she worked with the Splash Group and helped develop the club’s youngest swimmers. In 2022, she joined BTSC as the Junior Development Coach while completing her undergraduate degree, supporting athletes in building strong technical foundations and positive training habits.
Meaghan is now a certified teacher and works for the Simcoe County District School Board as a supply teacher. Keep an eye out for her, you never know when she might be teaching at your school.
Meaghan is very excited to return to the BTSC family this season and continue fostering a supportive, growthfocused environment for all swimmers.


Coaching: TOP
Thomas has been part of the Barrie Trojan Swim Club since 2017,
swimming from House League through to his graduation in the
competitive program in 2024. His coaching career also started with
the Trojans in House League during high school, where he helped
numerous swimmers develop and transition into the club's
competitive program, working with athletes aged 8 to 14. He has
also helped leading the Trojans' summer training camps for the past
two seasons.
Barrie is the only club Thomas has ever coached for, and that
history has given him a deep familiarity with its swimmers,
parents, and coaching staff. Having come up through the club's
grassroots himself, Thomas is passionate about giving younger
athletes the same foundation and support that shaped his own
swimming career, and is committed to helping the TOP group build
the skills and habits that carry a swimmer into a strong senior
career.

Pre-Competitive Coordinator: Tiny Trojans & House League
Bianca began coaching with the Barrie Trojan Swim Club in 2025, working with swimmers across all five Tiny Trojan levels. She brings four years of experience as a swim instructor at East Bayfield Community Centre and York University.
As Pre-Competitive Co-ordinator, Bianca’s goal is to create a fun and positive environment where young swimmers can develop their skills, build confidence, and see themselves as swimmers. She is currently completing her Honours degree in Philosophy at York University, with plans to pursue law school.

Debbie joined the Barrie Trojan Swim Club as a parent in 2000 with all three of her children eventually swimming for the club. She began coaching with the Trojans in 2004 with the first Swim School Program and has since gained experience coaching all three Novice levels with many swimmers achieving Regional Times.
Debbie swam competitively with Etobicoke Memorial Aquatic Club, Lakeshore Swimming Club and Varsity at Ryerson P. I. She taught swimming, lifesaving, synchro and coached high school swim teams since she was a teen and has been an aquatic programmer with the Barrie YMCA and the City of Barrie.
Debbie shares per passion for swimming with her swimmers. Returning as a support for the Pre-Competitive program, Debbie introduces swimmers to competitive swimming by improving their technique and building their self-esteem while encouraging them to make friends and have fun!
