2026 Ontario Swimming Championships Highlights
The Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre was the venue for the 2026 Ontario Swimming Championships that took place from July 8-12. BTSC had 29 athletes competing with swimmers from 88 other Clubs from the province.
Here are the BTSC highlights.
Day 1
The first day had the older age groups competing in the morning preliminary session and at finals in the evening.
Adriana Martone claimed the 17 year old and over silver medal for 100M breaststroke and Kate Smith won the bronze medal for the para 100M breastroke event.
Emma Vaughan placed 10th overall in the 1500M freestyle.
50M butterfly racing saw Blayke Taylor and Kenzie Sparrow placed 5th and 9th in their respective age groups.
Day 2
The afternoon session featured the 12 year old and under swimmers.
Emma Mackie used the 4th fastest time for 11-12 year olds in BTSC history to win the 50M breaststroke silver medal.
Madeleine Devroom placed 6th in the 200M butterfly.
In the 200M freestyle races, Oscar Round sped to the 11 year old boys silver medal in a very close race using a 5 second best time and jumping several seed positions to earn the medal. Esther Kim finished in 4th place for 11 year old girls and Sophie Bowen and Eva Beaudry placed 6th and 10th for 12 year olds.
The girls 4x50M freestyle relay team of Jessica Enwright, Esther Kim, Sophie Bowen and Eva Beaudry had a 4th place result.
The session ended with 400M IM where Emma Mackie achieved a 6th place finish.
The older swimmers were in the pool in the morning for preliminary events and in the evening for finals.
200M freestyle racing saw Kate Smith win the para gold medal. Blayke Taylor finished in 5th place and Ameliya Suleimanov placed 9th in their respective age categories. Kenzie Sparrow qualified for a B final.
In 100M backstroke finals, Kate Smith was on the podium again, this time earning a bronze medal. Clara Vilchez is also a provincial medallist, finishing her 15-16 year old 100M backstroke race in the bronze medal position.
Kaelyn Vroom placed 4th in the 400M individual medley.
Day 3
The younger swimmers were back into the pool for the afternoon session.
Oscar Round had another large time improvement in the 400M freestyle resulting in the 11 year old bronze medal.
In the 100M freestyle, Oscar Round, Jessica Enwright and Eva Beaudry placed 6th, 7th and 8th.
Emma Mackie placed 4th in the 100M breaststroke and was 10th in the 200M IM.
Sophie Bowen and Esther Kim placed 7th and 8th in their 800M freestyle swims.
For the older swimmers, Kate Smith, Blayke Taylor and Sydney Colquhoun qualified for 100M butterfly A finals while Clara Vilchez and Edwin Huang were B finalists. Kate claimed a bronze medal in her para 100M butterfly finals swim. Sydney placed 9th and Blayke was 10th overall. Clara finished 3rd in her B final race.
Day 4
The afternoon session for the younger athletes, their last session of the championships, was highlighted by Oscar Round being crowned as the 11 year old provincial champion for 800M freestyle! Oscar reached the finish in a time that was 18 seconds faster than his entry time and he needed every bit of it, out touching the 2nd and 3rd place finishers by less than a second.
Emma Mackie had an 8 second personal best to grab the 200M breaststroke bronze medal.
Jessica Enwright placed 6th overall in 50M freestyle.
400M freestyle racing saw Sophie Bowen speed to the bronze medal. Kat McFarland had a 7th place finish and Eva Beaudry placed 9th.
For the older athletes, the finals session began with the fastest heat of 800M freestyle for girls. Emma Vaughan and Ameliya Suleimanov had 9th place finishes for their respective age groups.
Blayke Taylor claimed the 100M butterfly bronze medal for 14 year olds and under. Sydney Colquhoun finished in 5th place in her finals race. Tate Devroom and Ben Millar placed 9th in the respective age groups and Evan Beatty qualified for the B final where he finished 3rd.
In finals for 50M breaststroke, Adriana Martone won the 17 year old and over provincial gold medal.
Kate Smith claimed the para 100M freestyle silver medal. Kenzie Sparrow finished 10th overall for her 100M freestyle racing and Blayke Taylor and Ameliya Suleimanov qualified for B finals.
Evan Beatty finished 10th in the 400M IM.
Day 5
On the last day of competition, Kate Smith bettered her entry time in the final to grab the para 200M IM gold medal. Kaelyn Vroom finished 7th overall.
50M backstroke racing had Clara Vilchez finishing 4th and Ameliya Suleimanov placing 9th.
Blayke Taylor sped to the 400M freestyle silver medal and Ameliya Suleimanov finished in 9th place.
Tate Devroom had a 9th place result in the 1500M freestyle.
